is springtime: trees are getting greener and gardens
are becoming colourful. There are celebrations of
spring, especially in towns in farming areas: traditional
events include May fayres, Morris dancing and Maypole
dancing. This is the end of the main football season.
Rapeseed fields, farm for its oil, can be seen. May
is the fifth month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar.
The month may have been named for the Greek goddess
Maia, who was identified with the Roman goddess of
fertility, Bona Dea. May’s flower is the lily
of the valley. Birthstone: emerald. |
