At
midnight the
Big Ben introduces the New Year with a dazzling
fireworks on the banks of the River Thames. January
is usually one of the coldest months of the year.
It is cold and the days are short. It is the start
of the second term (Easter term) at schools and
universities. This is a time when people make New
Year's resolutions. You can also buy some things
cheaply in January sales. Christmas decorations
are taken down on 6th January (Twelfth Night),
which is 12 days after Christmas Day. January is
the first month of the year in the Gregorian Calendar.
January is named for Janus, the god of doors and
gateways in Roman mythology. It’s flower
are Carnation and Snowdrops.
